is dark when peace watches over you
from a cosmos you can’t see but know is there.

A patch of velvet pats the sky dry
after a summer rain. I’d rather not walk 

this path alone where fireflies dim
their lights in bulbs of asiatic lilies 

curl lily petals across their frail, segmented bodies
as dew begins to set in for the morning sun ritual.
